A custom app, for when off-the-shelf programs don't fit

Sometimes no ready-made program fits the way your business works. That's when I build an app made exactly for you: a portal where customers check the status of their job, an area where partners place orders, or a staff rota. It works in the browser and on a phone, with nothing to install.

Why this works differently in the Canaries

Many businesses try to make things work by combining several subscription programs, spreadsheets and WhatsApp groups. Over time it turns into a tangle where mistakes are easy to make. Your own app is simpler than it sounds: it has only the screens you need, and the data and code belong to you.

Who it's for

  • Businesses that want to give customers a portal to check orders, documents or appointments
  • Wholesalers and producers whose partners place orders by email or phone
  • Businesses with teams out in the field who need a rota and job list on their phone
  • People with an idea for a new online service who want to test it
  • Businesses paying for several programs and still copying data between them

What's included

  • A chat and a simple plan of the screens before anything expensive gets built
  • Logins for customers, staff or partners, each seeing only their own things
  • Forms, lists, search, statuses, downloadable documents
  • Notifications by email or text message
  • A version for phones and computers
  • Connection to your website, CRM or online payments
  • The code and data belong to you
How it works in practice

Real-life examples

A customer portal for a renovation firm

Situation: Customers keep phoning to ask what stage their renovation is at.

  1. 1The customer logs in on your website and sees their project.
  2. 2They see the stages: "materials ordered", "bathroom work", "handover on 15 May".
  3. 3The team adds progress photos straight from their phones.
  4. 4The customer downloads the quote, invoices and guarantee.

Result: Fewer "how's it going?" calls, and the customer feels looked after.

Orders from partners

Situation: Restaurants order stock from you over WhatsApp and by phone.

  1. 1Each partner has their own account with a price list and order history.
  2. 2They place an order from a list in 2 minutes, in the evening too.
  3. 3You see all orders on one screen, sorted by delivery day.

Result: No more copying orders from WhatsApp and no more mistakes in quantities.

A rota for your team

Situation: You have several cleaning teams in different parts of the island.

  1. 1Each employee sees today's jobs on their phone, with the address and a note.
  2. 2When the job is finished they tap "done" and add a photo.
  3. 3You can see in real time what has been done and what hasn't.

Result: You know what's happening out in the field without calling everyone.

How it works

From quote to launch in four steps

  1. 1

A chat and a plan of the screens

Together we sketch what the app should include and who will use it.

  2. 2

    A quote in stages

I split the project into stages with a fixed price. You know what you are paying for before we start.

  3. 3

    Building and demos

Every 1 or 2 weeks I show you the progress. We make changes as we go, not at the end.

  4. 4

    Launch and growth

We go live, I train the users, and then we develop the app further as your business grows.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

Does the app have to be installed from the App Store?

No. It works in the browser, like a website, but looks and behaves like an app. You can add its icon to your phone's home screen.

How long does it take to build an app?

A simple portal usually takes 4 to 6 weeks. Larger systems are built in stages, and the first working stage is usually ready after 6 to 8 weeks.

Will the app be mine?

Yes. The code and data belong to you. If you ever want to switch to a different developer, you can.

I only have an idea. Where do I start?

With a chat and a simple plan of the screens. It often turns out that the first version can be much smaller and cheaper than you thought, and we add the rest once the idea has proved itself.
